One More Thing

Wednesday, July 26 2006 -- Filed under: — Carmon @ 9:59 pm

I haven’t had time for awhile to make an update to the Bookcloseouts Bargains page, but I need to mention a fabulous deal before they are all gone: right now you can get James S. Freemantle’s amazing book, The Psalms of David, for only $7.99. It is printed on heavy parchment-like paper and the entire book of Psalms is hand-copied, illuminated, and illustrated in this facsimile reprint of a book from the late 1800s. It is lovely. There are 8 copies left.

Through the end of July, there are some special coupons, too:

I Don’t Get It

What is it about wearing long modest dresses and aprons that automatically evokes an image of plain frumpiness? For example, who could argue that this picture, combining feminine loveliness and courage, portrays one whit of dowdiness? As the temperatures continue to soar here (and I take back all I said when I bragged on our temperate climate with its dry heat), the clothing continues to shrink and even disappear among the masses, and it’s not a pretty picture.

Library Thing

I’ve got a Library Thing. Have you got a Library Thing? I saw a couple of familiar names when I looked at who else had some of the reformed books I had catalogued. I am only getting started—many of the books listed so far are from Steve’s office as he was having so much fun adding them. I hope to make some significant progress on this in August, my handy-dandy bar code reader (beep!) in hand.

Take a peek.

Manifesto: Day of Small Things

Tuesday, July 25 2006 -- Filed under: — Carmon @ 10:59 pm

45) All things exist for the glory of God, even those small things which the world ignores or despises. Prairie Muffins, however, know they should not despise the “day of small things,” and they gladly serve their God in tasks great and small, not for the glory they can gain for themselves, but for the joy of bringing glory to Him who has given them everything. Whether cooking yet another meal, folding yet another basket of laundry, or quelling yet another childish tiff, God is pleased with our faithful and cheerful service, and He promises to reward us with greater responsibility and joy (Matthew 25:21).
