Pray for Candace

Dear friends,
I just got an email about a little girl who is very sick. We first met the Walsh family at the first San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival, when I interviewed their son Caleb about a film he had made (which won the Young Filmmakers Award). Their whole family was a delight, so excited for Caleb, and everyone in the large clan had participated in his movie.
This year we got to see the Walshes again. They were there to support their oldest married daughter who had made a movie. One morning my daughter and I were in the hotel lobby to eat breakfast, and we saw Candace and her little brother eating with their nanny. We stopped to talk with them, and those two little children, the youngest of the Walshes, put to rest any myths that homeschooled children have problems with socialization! They probably would have followed us all the way to the Alamo, talking our ears off, and we would have been glad to take them.
Now Candace is gravely ill. Apparently, she had severe pain in her abdominal region which they thought was a virus (what mother would suspect anything worse during stomach flu season?), but she continued to worsen, and the doctors found a large mass in her pelvic region which was caused by a cocci infection that originated in a bone and spread through her soft tissue. They had to perform surgery that removed much muscle and tissue in her pelvic region, and she is having hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Please pray for this little girl, her parents Pat and Cathy, and her brothers and sisters. Candace is in critical condition.
The family is posting updates here.

Little Candace is on my heart and mind. She needs our prayers so desperately. She has had five surgeries in five days. She looks to be about Katie's age and what her family thought was a typical virus has turned out to be a l…

I just found out about Candace yesterday 2/13 and checked the family’s web page. I was impressed by the prayer calendar and all the folks who had signed up to pray for her. Interesting how it went from a few to a couple of thousand! I’m glad our family can be a part of praying for her, too. Thanks for posting some background on who she is.
