New and Recycled
Last year at this time (how many writings have begun with those words?) I had an article published in Faith for All Life magazine on everyone’s favorite topic: sending our daughters away to college. I have just put it on my website, with my own title, so that it can either bless or irritate—or, as I’m sometimes told my bold opinions do, make you think.

Cheering you on my dear! Our family is blessed to have your words on these subjects. This is going in Shayna’s Beautiful Femininity Notebook. God bless you and encourage you!

Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed the article. We already know we do not plan to send our daughters away to college, though the oldest is not yet 5. And we’ve already had discussions with a few about the fall back “just in case,” and “it’s not prohibited,” and “What about if they’re really gifted and want to study higher math,” etc….

Bravo! My husband and I have already had a decent taste of the battle ahead of us with his parents wanting our children to go off to college. We have a senior daughter who finishes homeschool next year. I am thankful I gave the jobs of “explaining” over to him, but still they love to corner me and my daughter on this. He and I both have our B.A. degrees, none of our parents have any college. They saw life as clawing and scratching their way to the “top.” They still believe college equals success. It is such a struggle, but we do reassure them that we realize they love their grandchildren. The “what if” is a huge deal for them. Blessings!

Thank you for this article! We just graduated our oldest daughter from our homeschool on Saturday in a ‘less than traditional’ (to say the least!) ceremony at our church. We invited all our ‘nay saying’ relatives to attend and our pastor gave a rousing message on this very subject. I think all our relatives are still in shock but the fall out is sure to come soon! Ha! They’ve all known for some time now that our girl is not going to college and that her intention is to prepare for the domestic duties of being a wife and mother. They don’t like it but usually don’t give us too much grief.
Your article is so encouraging to us… especially as we are in the midst of the ‘battle’!

Dear Carmen,
Thank you for this article. We have a darling daughter, homeschooled and is graduating on the 10th of June. I agree with your article to prepare her calling as a wife and mother, but my husband is the head of our home and he believes our daughter should attend a Christian College. Your prayers are needed for Laura, as she adventures off to Azusa Pacific University. Love Always, Debbie

Huzzah!
This is why I let you hit the controversial stuff. Well put, well put indeed.
I attended some college. I have learned more at home with seven children for much less $$$ than my college education.
Go Carmon!
